What is a Direct Payments Support Worker?
The Direct Payments Support Workers are here to provide advice and support to disabled people. We are employed by voluntary organisations so we are independent of Adult Services and Children’s Services, so anything you tell us will be treated as confidential unless you ask us to tell your care manager.
We also do training and have meetings with staff at Adult Services and Children’s Services to let them know about the Direct Payments and if there are current issues about Direct Payments, they need to know about.

The Hampshire Direct Payments Scheme offers disabled people choice and control over how they receive the assistance they require. However, it can be a little daunting using the Direct Payments Scheme, particularly in the beginning, so that is why in Hampshire, there are Direct Payments Support Workers.

How the Direct Payments Support Worker can support YOU
We can visit you at home and explain how Direct Payments works. We can assist you to work out how many hours of support you would need from Direct Payments although it is Adult Services and Children’s Services who will make the final decision.

Once the number of hours are agreed, if you wish, we can advise you on how to recruit the personal assistant(s), i.e. drafting a job advert, supporting you to interview possible personal assistants, and drawing up a contract for your personal assistant.

You can also get support from us if you need to deal with tax and national insurance for your personal assistants and if you want advice on any insurance you might need.
We can also advise on how to fill in the record keeping sheets the first time you do it. However, if you will need support to do this all the time, you may need to employ a worker, using some of your direct payments, to assist you with the record keeping.
